AQTES is an international working group of queer and trans scientists aiming to improve working conditions and career outcomes for queer and trans scientists working in academic and non-profit laboratories. We write about the needs of queer and trans scientists from our own experiences in the sciences. We welcome scientists at all career levels who are actively engaged in research at academic or non-profit institutions in some capacity.
We strive to ensure our recommendations maintain their relevance across borders. As an international working group, we reject a view of science that only prioritizes the needs of scientists in The US, Canada, Australia, and European countries.
See our letter in Science calling on researchers in the US at all levels—from undergraduates to university presidents—to take direct, consistent, and rapid action to protect transgender scientists.
See our perspective in PLOS Biology calling for a change in faculty hiring practices and our detailed whitepaper that provides concrete recommendations for hiring committees to make such changes.

See our perspective in mSystems offering guidance on how to build a queer- and trans-inclusive microbiology conference.

See our response in the American Journal of Botany discussing the use of the word gender in plant sciences.
Some of our members put together a guide for faculty hoping to better support their trans colleagues.
